An Interview with Keith Mosher
How long have you been a Director?
In spirit or in practice? (laughs) If by "being" you mean actively doing...the answer would be about three months. After reading Robert Rodriguez's book "Rebel Without a Crew", I made a conscious decision to change my life and pursue my dream of Directing in Hollywood. My first project, I decided, would be a feature length action/comedy entitled One Long Day. With the power of Craigslist, I quickly assembled a crew that was very interested in doing the film and work on the script began. I enlisted the help of Screen Writer David Greider to take my concept to full script, and in this process, got my first taste of producing and directing. Around the middle of January I heard about On The Lot, and realized this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. So I put One Long Day on the back burner to crank out my short film submission. Now that Final Hour is finished I can get back to work on One Long Day.
What types of movies do you want to Direct?
Ideally I want to be known as a very diverse Director, creating films from many different genres over my career. Although most of my dream projects would be considered Epic Fantasy/Sci-Fi pieces.
What are some of these Dream Projects you mentioned?
I would kill for the chance to re-create two iconic films in my own vision...Conan the Barbarian and Clash of the Titans. Additionally I would love to direct some great fictional trilogies....The DragonLance Trilogy is at the top of that list.
How would you describe your Directing style?
I think it's a little early in the game to tell at this point. With only one five minute short to my credit, I have yet to really find my style. There are three movies that stand out as how I would envision my style...LoTR, Underworld and Pulp Fiction....toss them in a blender...and BAM, that's how I would describe it.
Let's talk about Final Hour, how did you come up with the idea?
When Project Greenlight came out (the last season), me and my friends decided to do our own personal version of the show. We decided to each create a short script, 10 minutes in length or less. The Genre would be horror and the center piece of the story had to be a box. Any box would do, as long as it was integral. I wrote my script, at the time called Last Call, and then it just sat on my computer doing nothing. We never got our #$%* together or made the movies. So when I found out about On The Lot, it was perfect because Last Call was a five minute script...so I decided to just go with that.
But why the name change from Last Call to Final Hour?
This didn't happen until the final stages of editing. In Last Call, Michelle receives one last phone call, which turns out to be the killer. However, because we were sick as dogs (me and most the crew), on the shoot, I just plain didn't get some critical shots I needed to pull the story together. This forced me to re-write the story in the editing process and when it was done, the title Last Call didn't make sense any more, so me and my wife Keturah came up with FInal Hour.
What's next for Keith Mosher?
Well as I said, I am going back to work on my first feature One Long Day. If I get selected to go On The Lot, that will change things again, and production will again get put on hold. If I don't get selected I will go into pre-production as soon as I hear the news. Once finished, I will go on an aggressive campaign to get my movie seen by the right people in Hollywood that can get me a gig with a studio.
I think I need an agent.
